Housing Minister Calls on Landlords to Tackle Anti-Social Behaviour
Minister for Housing and Regeneration, Carl Sargeant is calling on landlords and housing organisations across Wales to do more to tackle housing related anti-social behaviour.
Carl Sargeant said:
"Anti-social behaviour affects people’s well-being and quality of life and is wholly unacceptable.
"I want to work with all housing organisations and social landlords to ensure consistent policies are in place to deal with housing related problems for both tenants and staff.
"Landlords need to adopt a more proactive approach to tackling anti-social behaviour with a fundamental shift towards more preventative work. The focus should be on the needs of victims with social landlords increasingly looking for the early warning signs of domestic abuse that can sometimes be exhibited through anti-social behaviour.
"Research published last month identified effective working practices and policies by some social landlords. I want to use this; together with examples I have seen during visits to projects successfully tackling anti-social behaviour, such as Bron Afon Community Housing and Flintshire Council, to drive forward improvement across the sector.
"Social landlords, in both housing associations and local authorities, have policies in place to tackle anti-social behaviour but the research study showed there was room for improvement.
"I am determined to take further action to stamp out this wholly unacceptable behaviour and have set up a series of workshops to identify what more can be done to tackle this problem."
