Met Office College Offers Expert Training to the Water Industry
The operational and financial performance of a water company is closely linked to the weather and climate - from extreme rain causing drainage issues, to freezing temperatures and snow causing pipes to freeze and burst - therefore it is vital that industry personnel understand forecasts and weather information.
The Met Office will be running a water industry training course on 24th February in Birmingham. Suitable for operational staff, the course is designed to help water companies optimise their operations and increase safety.
The tailored training course gives candidates the skills to analyse and interpret weather data in addition to understanding how it impacts water company operations.
Delegates from leading UK water companies such as Yorkshire Water and Wessex Water are already reaping the benefits from attending the course. Michaela Wilson, Management Systems Manager at Wessex Water said: "Having this knowledge within our business has been very useful.
"Our increased understanding of the trigger levels within different weather patterns means that our control room can initiate mitigating action and be better prepared. For example, an awareness of the location of lightning strikes has already been used to inform decisions and helped us to reduce the need to call on staff out of hours."
Participants are able to choose three modules from a selection of nine, in addition to a core module, meaning the course can be tailored to the individual or company's requirements.
