Minister praises Wrexham projects support for the homeless

The Wrexham Foyer Complex, which is backed by over £771,000 of Welsh Government funding through its Supporting People Programme, is playing an essential role in supporting vulnerable people to live independently, Communities and Tackling Poverty Minister Lesley Griffiths has said.

The Minister was visiting the Complex which consists of three projects - Hafan, Wrexham Foyer and Preswylfa to experience the important work undertaken to provide vital accommodation and support for homeless men and women.

Two of the projects, Hafan and Wrexham Foyer, provide accommodation for young people aged 16 to 25 years old and support their transition into independent living.

The Minister said recently:

“The work being undertaken here at the Wrexham Foyer Complex is ensuring young people have the best possible to start in life which is a priority for the Welsh Government.

“Our Supporting People programme provides essential support to some of our most vulnerable people and I’m pleased we have been able to provide funding for these important projects.

“I have been pleased to visit the Complex today and speak to the young people living here to get a real understanding of the positive difference it is making to their lives.”

Mandy White, Wrexham Supported Living Coordinator for Clwyd Alyn Housing Association who manage the Foyer Complex said recently:

“We are delighted to welcome the Minister to the three widely differing schemes at Foyer Complex to meet with residents and staff.

“She was able to hear first-hand about the life experiences of those living here, and how the support they receive is helping them gain self-confidence and skills for the future.”

Cllr Ian Roberts, Wrexham County Borough Council Lead Member for Housing:

“I was very impressed with the staff and their interactions with residents when I visited this fantastic facility.  It offers security to young people who would become extremely vulnerable without it.”
