Over £3.2m awarded in Cultural Destinations fund

A new cultural destination in London, making Milton Keynes’s cultural venues more accessible from cycling and walking routes, and attracting tourists to sample art and culture in the Potteries, are amongst some of the latest projects being funded through our Cultural Destinations programme.

Our work with VisitEngland and this new investment means that more places across the country will gain from the benefits delivered by local growth in both the economy and arts and culture.

Cultural Destinations is an initiative that was developed by the Arts Council as a result of a three year partnership with VisitEngland, the national tourist board. The programme aims to increase the reach of those experiencing arts and culture, the sustainability of cultural organisations in local destinations, and to encourage the public and private sector to work together to support the growth of the local visitor economy.

Darren Henley, Chief Executive of Arts Council England, said: "The success of Hull’s inspiring UK City of Culture launch is a reminder of the transformative power that arts and culture can have in any one place. Our work with VisitEngland and this new investment means that more places across the country will gain from the benefits delivered by local growth in both the economy and arts and culture.

“Partnership working is key in sustaining projects such as these, in building future audiences – both local and international - and in creating the right conditions for projects to thrive. I'm looking forward to seeing the successful organisations use their Cultural Destination funding to bring their projects to life over the coming months.”
