Welsh NHS Confederation comment on Richmond Group report
Vanessa Young, Director of the Welsh NHS Confederation, said: “The findings of this report - that 250,000 people will die from preventable conditions by 2025 and even more will have the quality of their lives drastically reduced – are very concerning.
“We know that the consequences of unhealthy lifestyles have a huge impact on our own health and wellbeing, as well as that of the NHS. The fact that these deaths are as a result of preventable conditions means that action can be taken to reduce this worrying trend. This includes prevention and early intervention to support and maintain people’s wellbeing and prevent ill health for as long as possible.
“It is also important that people recognise the role they can play when it comes to reducing the likelihood of developing these conditions. Not only is living healthier, more active lifestyles good for us an individuals, it helps us to reduce demand on our health services. We would therefore encourage people to work alongside the NHS to do what they can to improve their health and wellbeing.”
