UNICEF - Emma Bunton launches the Pampers and UNICEF 'Every Parent's Dream'
Yesterday, celebrity mum, Emma Bunton is inviting parents across the UK and Ireland to join together and support the launch of the Pampers and UNICEF ‘Every Parent’s Dream’ campaign. For every specially marked pack of Pampers you buy, Pampers will donate the cost of one vaccine to help UNICEF in the fight against Maternal and Newborn Tetanus (MNT).
Every parent’s dream, wherever they are in the world, is for a healthy start in life for their baby. Thanks to the collective support of parents across the globe, Pampers and UNICEF have already helped to eliminate Maternal and Newborn Tetanus in ten of the world’s poorest countries: Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Ghana, Guinea Bissau, Liberia, Myanmar, Senegal, Tanzania, Timor Leste and Uganda. But there are still babies in 30* of the world’s poorest countries at risk from this fatal but preventable disease. Pampers® and UNICEF are encouraging parents to support their campaign to help make every parent’s dream of a healthy start in life for their baby, come true.
Emma Bunton, Pampers ambassador says: “I’m supporting the Pampers and UNICEF ‘Every Parent’s Dream’ campaign, to celebrate the fantastic progress made so far in eliminating Maternal and Newborn Tetanus. As a mum myself, my only dream for my babies was that they would be born healthy and happy. It’s great to see how the efforts of parents everywhere have helped make that dream a reality for parents in some of the world’s poorest countries. There is still much more to be done though with 100 million women and their newborns still at risk.
Together we can support UNICEF to help more parents make sure their babies get a healthy start by protecting them against MNT. It’s so easy - you can either buy a specially marked pack of Pampers or watch one of our campaign videos by visiting our Pampers UK Facebook page. For every view, or special pack of Pampers bought, Pampers will donate the cost of an additional vaccine to UNICEF, helping us get closer to our ultimate goal of achieving global elimination of MNT.”
Maternal and Newborn Tetanus is easily preventable with the right vaccinations. Yet 58,000** babies still die each year from this devastating disease and, today, there are approximately 100 million women and their newborn babies in the world’s poorest countries who are at risk from MNT. They live in some of the hardest to reach areas and do not have access to quality healthcare and other basic services. In many places newborn tetanus is still a leading cause of infant mortality due to a lack of sufficient health care, immunisation services and hygienic birth practices.
Anita Tiessen, UNICEF UK Deputy Executive Director, says: “It’s a devastating reality that thousands of babies are still dying from newborn tetanus every year. This is a disease that we can prevent and ultimately eliminate throughout the world. Thanks to the Pampers and UNICEF partnership, we’ve already come a long way in the global fight against this killer disease, providing 300 million vaccines so far. But we need your continued support to go further. By buying special packs of Pampers nappies and wipes, you can help UNICEF give more babies a healthy start to their young lives.”
