Who inspires young people about science? Award nominations open!

The STEMNET Awards aim to recognise the UK's most inspirational people for motivating young people in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM). STFC is supporting the awards with a trip to CERN for the winners!

STEMNET creates opportunities to inspire young people in STEM. It helps encourage young people to be well informed about STEM, able to engage fully in debate, and make decisions about STEM related issues.

There are five categories this year - 'The UK's most dedicated...'

  • STEM Ambassador
  • STEM Teacher
  • STEM Club
  • STEM Employee

And for the first time, 'The UK's Most Inspirational Technician'.

The winners will be chosen by a panel of experts and the winners will get to visit CERN, courtesy of STFC.

CERN is located on the French-Swiss border, near Geneva. It has a worldwide reputation for scientific research in fundamental physics. CERN was the birthplace of the World Wide Web and is currently home to large scale facilities including the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). The LHC is the world's largest particle accelerator and allows scientists to reproduce the conditions within a billionth of a second after the Big Bang. The international project produces about 15 million gigabytes of data annually - a huge quantity that is thought to be nearly 1% of the worlds annual information production rate.

There is no limit to the number of categories you can nominate in. The closing date for nominations is Monday 3rd October 2011.
