The Baking with Friends challenge - get your bake on!
Do you think you could use baking to help some of your learners gain confidence with both their maths and computer skills? If so then our new Baking with Friends challenge is perfect for you!
Starting during Spring Online (22 - 26 April) and running right through to Adult Learners’ Week (18 - 24 May), we’ll be challenging the centres taking part to run special sessions during which learners will follow fun and easy recipes and cook up a storm right in their centre!
By encouraging learners to measure ingredients, add up calories and divide up portions, they’ll be developing their math skills - and you can even show them how computers can help them convert ounces to grams or find all kinds of other recipes online.
We’ve got some fantastic Baking with Friends packs to help centres run the sessions. They’ll include a selection of super-easy recipe cards, hints and tips on how to make your sessions a success and a £50 supermarket voucher to help you cover the costs of ingredients, equipment or anything else you might need for your session.
And don’t worry if you don’t think you’ve got the facilities to take part - whether you’ve got a top of the range kitchen, a microwave or simply a clean table - there’ll be a pack and a recipe perfect for you!
Baking with Friends sessions will be a great new way of introducing maths and computer skills and could be lovely way for to older people and their younger relatives to share their knowledge and gain new skills together!
We’re putting together a few short Baking with Friends videos that centres will be able to use to support their sessions and this week we’ve been to The Lighthouse Project in Middleton, Greater Manchester to film them getting their bake on! It was great to see some of the recipes being tried out before we launch the challenge so a big thank you to Carl, Pam and Julian for all their help!
