The three-year £25m investment package was launched in January 2013 and so far £5.037m has been spent on high priority technology investments.

Ysbyty Glan Clwyd in Bodelwyddan has received a new £2m linear accelerator machine to treat cancer patients by producing and delivering radiation with precision that was previously unavailable.

The fund has been spread across Wales with Ysbyty Gwynedd, Nevill Hall, Singleton, Princess of Wales, Prince Charles, Royal Glamorgan, Ceredigion Community, Ystradgynlais, Builth Wells, Newtown and Velindre hospitals have all purchased new ultrasound scanners.

£5M was allocated for 2012-13 with a further £10m allocated for the following two financial years (2013-14 and 2014-15with £5m transferred to start the funding for the Health Technology & Telehealth Fund).

Health Minister, Mark Drakeford said:

“We launched the Health Technologies Fund twelve months ago and over £5m has been spent during that period.

“People throughout Wales have benefited, receiving the best possible treatment as a result of this Welsh Government investment, which aims to improve outcomes and reduce the need for care in hospital.

“Technology plays a key role for us to achieve these aims and despite these tough economic times, we remain firmly committed to providing a high quality health service for Wales.”
