Replacement of the NCMP data upload tool

To support local authorities to deliver the NCMP, the Excel based tool for validating locally collected data and submitting it to the Health and Social Care Information Centre (HSCIC) is being upgraded for 2013 to 2014 school year.

The new system
The new system will be available for use in the 2013 to 2014 school year and will:

•provide a secure environment according to NHS standards in which pupil identifiable records can be processed and stored. This will be accessed through a browser based online system, meaning it will run more efficiently and reliably than the existing system.

•include an update of the current offline data collection tool to allow for offline electronic capture of measurements at the point of measurement for easy transfer into the online system. This is for use in situations where online access is not available at the point of measurement.

•provide school lists for each local authority; calculate pupils’ BMI centile and weight category; facilitate the production of result letters to parents to inform them of the results of their child’s measurements and support the secure return of validated NCMP data to the HSCIC.
