VSO 'Hugely encouraged' by High Level Panel proposal to put women's empowerment at the heart of future efforts to fight poverty
Responding yesterday (30 May) to the publication of the report of the High Level Panel advising the UN on the post-2015 development framework, co-chaired by UK Prime Minister David Cameron, VSO Chief Executive Marg Mayne said:
“VSO has campaigned for women’s empowerment to be at the heart of future efforts to fight poverty. We’re hugely encouraged that David Cameron and his co-chairs have proposed a standalone goal on gender and a target to eliminate discrimination against women in political, social and economic life. It’s now up to governments to make this a reality for women, building on the recommendations and ensuring they are not watered down. VSO will continue to press the UK delegation to follow through on this promising start during the intergovernmental negotiations later this year.”
