NHS Confederation comments on King’s Fund report on health policy under the coalition government
"This is a fair and reasonable report card on the NHS’s performance. The health service is undergoing significant reorganisation during a period of immense financial pressure.
"It is really important that we acknowledge its successes to our patients and staff.
“However, it is clear that there are a number of areas where we have to do much better. In particular, we need to do much more to make sure that every patient receives dignified care every time, and maintain a strong focus on reducing emergency admissions and avoidable mortality. We cannot afford to let standards slip in these important areas.
“A growing number of organisations are finding themselves being pushed towards a cliff edge and tough decisions need to be taken if they are to recover their financial footing and deliver better care.
“The NHS is undergoing significant change and its structure will become more complex as a result of the Government’s reforms. But the NHS has experienced change many times before, and will continue to do its utmost to deliver for patients and the wider public.”
Notes to Editors
The NHS Confederation represents all organisations that commission and provide NHS services. It is the only membership body to bring together and speak on behalf of the whole of the NHS. We help the NHS to guarantee high standards of care for patients and best value for taxpayers by representing our members and working together with our health and social care partners.
We make sense of the whole health system, influence health policy and deliver industry-wide support functions for the NHS.
