Support for struggling water customers on the agenda at public meeting

SUPPORT for water customers in financial difficulty will be one of the main topics of discussion at the Consumer Council for Water’s (CCWater) next public meeting in London later this month.

The water watchdog is encouraging water customers to attend the regional meeting on Wednesday, February 26 where they can learn more about some of the issues affecting consumers in London and the South East.

Water meters, the introduction of social tariffs and other existing schemes to help water customers in financial difficulty – such as WaterSure – will be discussed at the meeting which will feature key stakeholders and other interested parties, including representatives from the region’s water companies.

There will also be an opportunity to meet CCWater’s new London and South East Chair Sir Tony Redmond and the watchdog’s Chief Executive Tony Smith.

Sir Tony Redmond said: “We know these are difficult times for many households with one in eight customers telling us they cannot afford their water bill.”

“Social tariffs are an important step in helping even more customers who are struggling financially and this meeting will give people the chance to find out more about the support that is available.”

The meeting will take place at 2pm at Fleetbank House, 2 – 6 Salisbury Square, London, EC4Y 8JX.

If you would like to attend this meeting or have any further questions please contact, Alastair Lloyd (Assistant Policy Manager) on 020 7931 8502 or email Alastair.Lloyd@ccwater.org.uk by Friday, February  21.
