Minister praises ‘get up and go’ of GO Wales graduates
Education Minister Jane Hutt has recently visited a company in Bridgend to see firsthand the success of their involvement with the GO Wales Programme.
Funded earlier this year with a £17 million Welsh Assembly Government convergence package, GO Wales has continued to give students and graduates a head start in today's job market by providing a wide range of work experience opportunities, training and jobs, accompanied by a helpful range of career resources.
Jane Hutt visited educational wall chart producers ‘Daydream Education’ in Bridgend to meet their current GO Wales Graduate placement, Scott Ace, to discuss his own GO Wales experience and to find out how he has benefitted from the scheme.
Scott decided to apply for his placement with Daydream Education after attending the all new GO Wales Graduate Academy which was piloted in July 2009. Unique to Wales, the Graduate Academy provides the opportunity for graduates to attend a two week training programme followed by four weeks of work experience leading to the achievement of a management qualification.
Jane Hutt said:
“Through GO Wales we are able to work in close collaboration with SMEs Small Medium Enterprises and other organisations to provide students and graduates with opportunities that will not only help to progress their careers, but also give businesses the ability to gain access to higher level skills to boost their activities.
“It is essential for us to keep investing in graduates and through schemes such as this we aim to encourage individuals to use their knowledge and skills to help them on the right career path to achieve their full potential.”
Scott Ace, GO Wales Graduate said:
“Doing a GO Wales placement has given me the opportunity to gain vital experience as a Graphic Designer within a working environment. The achievement goals which were set with GO Wales at the start of the placement have been an excellent way for me to make sure I get everything I can out of the time on the placement.”
