Monitor closes its investigation into Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust

Monitor has today closed its investigation into Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust, having found no evidence to conclude that the trust is in breach of its licence.

The health sector regulator launched its investigation in June 2013 to look at concerns about how the trust was being run after the trust had been issued with a Care Quality Commission warning notice in relation to how they treat patients. Monitor was concerned that the trust’s failure to tackle issues previously identified by the CQC could indicate problems in how the organisation ensures quality care for its patients.

Frances Shattock, Regional Director at Monitor, said:

"We have looked at a range of evidence relating to the performance of this trust and have not found evidence to conclude that it is operating in breach of its licence.

"The trust is on the way to addressing the issues raised by the CQC. However we will keep a close watch on the trust’s progress to make sure that the required improvements are delivered at pace."
