IPCC refers investigation into officer serving on the Sapphire command to the Crown Prosecution Service

The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) has completed its investigation into a Metropolitan Police Service officer who served on the Sapphire command in Islington and has referred its report to the Crown Prosecution Service to determine whether to bring any criminal charges.

The independent investigation began following a referral from the MPS in May 2012 containing allegations that the officer, a detective constable, had falsified entries on the crime report system in relation to the submission of exhibits, advice from the CPS and authorities sought from senior officers.

The officer has been interviewed by IPCC investigators on three occasions. He remains on bail.

Two other MPS officers have also been investigated. A matter in relation to one of those officers, a police constable, has also been referred to the CPS.

The MPS Sapphire Command, now known as the Sexual Offences, Exploitation, and Child Abuse Command, is responsible for investigating rape and sexual assaults.
