Focus on regeneration
Much more needs to be done to address problems associated with poverty and deprivation in some of our communities, Housing and Communities Minister Alex Neil said today.
A Regeneration Discussion Paper has been published to kick start a wider debate about the key challenges and opportunities for regeneration in the future.
The Scottish Government has invested £200 million in regeneration initiatives over the last spending review period.
Partners in national and local government, the public, private and third sectors and communities are invited to submit their thoughts and ideas.
Mr Neil said:
"Much has been achieved, but the persistent problems associated with poverty and deprivation remains. That is why it makes sense to bring people together to reflect on how regeneration can best evolve in the future.
"Going forward, limited public sector resources means that we need new approaches and models for funding development in the future. We will need to make tough choices about where we invest, and why, and have a clear rationale for that.
"This paper does not provide all the answers, and we are keen to hear from others about their thoughts, ideas and aspirations for the future."
