Organ Donation LCO proceeds for pre-legislative scrutiny

Secretary of State for Wales Cheryl Gillan has yesterday Monday 10 January announced that the Organ Donation LCO will proceed to pre-legislative scrutiny in Parliament.

Mrs Gillan said:  “I am pleased to have been able to put this LCO forward for pre-legislative scrutiny. It is important that this vital and sensitive matter is examined thoroughly both at Westminster and in the Assembly.

“Pre-legislative scrutiny is a significant part of the LCO process, allowing MPs and Assembly Members to investigate thoroughly the issues raised by this request, and to offer a view as to whether or not it would be suitable for powers to be devolved.

“I was pleased to inform the First Minister that by facilitating this request the Wales Office is fulfilling its commitment to continue working constructively with the Welsh Assembly Government.”

Notes

The Welsh Assembly Government has also submitted the proposed LCO for pre-legislative scrutiny in the National Assembly.

The Welsh Assembly Government is seeking powers to be able to bring in a system of presumed consent on organ donation in Wales.
