Seminar: Under Pressure - Exploring the financial implications of an ageing population

Wednesday 24 November 2010: University of Birmingham

The Audit Commission has teamed up with the Institute of Local Government Studies to deliver a one day seminar exploring the financial implications of an ageing population for local authorities.

Councils are facing the challenge of an ageing population as public spending reduces. All councils - and their partners in health, housing, and policing - need to prepare for increasing numbers of older people. Many will see costs increase, while needing to find billions of pounds of extra savings.

This seminar will include a session on using the Finance Improvement Tool - a new product to support councils and others in understanding and responding to an ageing population.

Is your council prepared to face this challenge?

The seminar will make you and your council better prepared to make decisions which achieve more for less.

How will it benefit you?

The Audit Commission has published two ground-breaking studies to support councils in tackling the impact of an ageing population on local services: Under Pressure and Don't Stop me Now.

This joint seminar with INLOGOV at the University of Birmingham will explore the good practice lessons that can be learnt from these reports. The day will provide:

  • authoritative University, Audit Commission and local authority speakers
  • practical case studies
  • opportunities for in-depth and thought-provoking discussion.
