Online visions for 2020

The Chartered Institute of Building’s (CIOB) Vision 2020 seminar held at the recent Ecobuild exhibition in London is now available as a webcast at www.ciob.org.uk/resources/onlinebroadcasts.

The seminar involved some of the international industry’s most visionary and respected leaders sharing their views on the challenges, considerations and opportunities facing the construction industry in the coming years.

Michael Brown CIOB deputy chief executive said: “Companies of all specialities and sizes need to understand how global drivers are interacting with our industry and how they can integrate this information into their own business strategies.

“Most national industries recognise that there are issues, like sustainability and world financial investment that stretch far into the international marketplace. However, home grown challenges like skills shortages and the flow of workforces are actually international issues that resonate around the globe as well. It is clear from the seminar that as human urbanisation continues so will the demand for construction projects and the need for new skills and greater innovation.

“We felt it only right that as today’s leaders give us their visions for the future, tomorrow’s leaders also had a say in the debate. We invited five of the industry’s brightest talents to share their own thoughts and pose searching questions to our expert panel. You can see all of those results on our webcast.”

· Norbert Young President of McGraw-Hill Construction (USA)

· Professor Li Shirong CIOB Vice President and Deputy Director of Chongqing Foreign Trade & Economic Relations Commission (China)
