Police and Crime Commissioners have praised communities’ response to the severe weather that has hit parts of the UK in recent weeks and have pledged to help ensure a joined up police response with other agencies in those areas most badly affected.

Representing the three groups Tony Lloyd, Chairman of The APCC Board and Greater Manchester PCC, Sir Graham Bright, Cambridgeshire PCC and Ron Ball, Warwickshire PCC said:

“Police and Crime Commissioners will do all they can to help all agencies, including the police, to work with their communities in responding to these challenging situations at a local level.

“We pay tribute to residents who, together with volunteers, Armed Forces personnel and other public and emergency services have helped coordinate efforts in their local communities.

“More bad weather is predicted later this week so our thoughts remain with those communities affected. Police and Crime Commissioners are supporting local police operations, in partnership with other relevant agencies, to ensure resources are deployed effectively. The police are conscious of the potential for some criminal elements to exploit the situation in flood hit areas and will do all they can to protect flood victims from further harm.

“Police and Crime Commissioners welcome the Prime Minister’s pledge that whatever money is needed for, it will be spent. We look forward to any additional assurances the Home Office can provide that will ensure the continuity of the police response to tackle the unprecedented conditions.”
