WWF - Energy efficiency vital in tackling fuel poverty

WWF said yesterday that the final report from Professor John Hills' review of Fuel Poverty was an important addition to the debate on future energy policy.

WWF said that the Government should use this important piece of work to inform the roll out of the Green Deal and the energy company obligation (ECO) to ensure that people on low incomes are provided with energy efficiency measures to help them out of fuel poverty and protect them from future energy price rises.

Zoe Leader, energy efficiency policy officer at WWF-UK , said: "With more people dying from living in a cold home than die on our roads each year it’s never been more important that we help those in fuel poverty to improve the energy efficiency of their homes.

“It’s great that in his report Professor Hills has highlighted tackling fuel poverty as a priority for a number of concerns including energy efficiency and carbon saving. Energy efficiency is the cornerstone of a sustainable and affordable energy future and this should begin with the homes of those least able to afford it."
