UK Government and BBC World Service Trust join forces to help world's most troubled hot-spots
The Government has announced a new joint venture with the BBC World Service Trust which will help over 200 million people in poor, war-torn or unstable countries. Projects which use radio, TV, social networks and mobile technology will be scaled up to help people cope during disasters and drive social change.
In addition to traditional media such as radio and TV, the project will build on the lessons of the Arab Spring, widening the use modern media to help people hold their own government to account.
The Coalition Government has asked the BBC World Service Trust (WST) - the charitable arm of the BBC – to target 14 countries where conflict, poverty, low levels of education and restrictive freedom of information leaves people unable to influence issues that affect their lives.
