Distinctive landscapes in line for funding
From Ben Nevis to Dartmoor, distinctive landscapes the length and breadth of the UK have been earmarked for Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) investment.
The 13 areas have passed the first round of the organisation’s Landscape Partnerships (LP) programme, meaning they could receive a share of £20 million.
The funding will help to conserve the landscapes by supporting schemes that provide long-term social, economic and environmental benefits for rural areas.
“The HLF’s Landscape Partnerships are helping change the way people think about and care for some of the UK’s most spectacular scenery,” said Dame Jenny Abramsky, Chair of HLF. “We’re very proud of this ground-breaking funding programme – the first and only one of its kind – and we plan to continue to build on its achievements in the coming years.”
The 13 projects are:
-
Ouse Washes LP, Cambridgeshire
-
Norfolk and Suffolk Brecks LP
-
Nevis LP, Fort William
-
Inner Forth LP, Central Scotland
-
Dartmoor LP, Devon
-
Lower Severn Vale LP, South Gloucestershire
-
River Tees LP, County Durham
-
Allen Valleys LP, North Pennines AONB
-
Ring of Gullion LP, Newry and Mourne
-
Tame Valley Wetlands LP, Warwickshire and Staffordshire
-
Dearne Valley LP, South Yorkshire
-
Upper Nidderdale LP, Yorkshire
-
Saltscape LP, Cheshire
The applicants will now progress to a second round, where they will submit a fully-developed application to secure the full funding award.
More than £130 million has been invested in 83 different areas through the Landscape Partnerships programme, which has been running for eight years.
