FE Organisations In Landmark Agreement

Lifelong Learning UK and The Single Voice have recently taken a step towards this by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The MoU sets out an agenda for collaboration between the organisations over the coming three years (2008 to 2011) and beyond.

The MoU outlines three areas for action. These are matters affecting regulation in the sector; information, data, research and planning; and employer engagement.

David Hunter, Lifelong Learning UK Chief Executive commented:

"I'm pleased that we have formalised the relationship between ourselves and The Single Voice. As the voice of employers in the FE sector, we have the vision that by 2012 they will have an enhanced capacity for self improvement, including self-regulation. Success can only be achieved if the sector is supported by robust, relevant data and intelligence to assist workforce planning. We want to make sure there are benefits to individual providers. By engaging with employers we will be able to provide them with realistic forecasting that can inform policy development and national investment. The priority for both organisations is to support the workforce to become world class."

Sir George Sweeney, chair of the Single Voice agreed:

"This vision is shared by the Single Voice. We want to streamline systems so that there are benefits for providers, learners and employers in industry. By working with Lifelong Learning UK we can act together on developments being proposed in FE sector in England".
