New Independent Advisor on sharing criminality information
Home Secretary
Alan Johnson today announced the appointment of Sunita Mason as
the Government's Independent Advisor for Criminality
Information Management.
Sunita Mason will scrutinise and advise the Government on how to improve the sharing of information about criminals between key Government departments and frontline agencies.
The appointment was a commitment made by the Government following Sir Ian Magee's Review of Criminality Information.
Home Secretary Alan Johnson said:
"The Government is dedicated to protecting the public and that is why we are improving the way we collect, share and use information to tackle crime.
"The Independent Advisor will play a key role in driving forward progress. I am delighted to announce the appointment of Sunita Mason and have every confidence that she will do an excellent job."

Sunita Mason is the former Director of Legal Services for the National Youth Advocacy Service. She is a leading family law solicitor and a member of the Law Society Children Panel. She is the current Chair of the Law Society's Family Law Committee, and also holds a judicial position, sitting as a Deputy District Judge on the North-Eastern circuit.
She is also a director and vice-chair of Hill Holt Wood, a charity working with disadvantaged young people excluded from mainstream education.
She is 40 years old and married with a son. She takes up her role on 7 September 2009.
