It's a scandal - homeless people living amongst rubbish in London

Jenny Edwards, Homeless Link's Chief Executive, comments on front page story in the Standard on homeless men sleeping in dustbins reported on Monday 17 January:

"Today, roughly half the people sleeping out on London streets are non UK citizens - the "wrong sort" of homeless people some think, because they are not local voters and they get no housing benefit.  People sleeping amongst piles of rubbish and rats in our capital in the 21st century is a disgrace. We have a choice - for Londoners and our political leaders to act to end the scandal of rough sleeping, or to decide this is a price worth paying in an age of austerity. We appeal to Londoners to support their local homelessness charities and to tell their local councillors that homeless people matter to them and action must be taken to solve the problems of the people who sleep out.."
