Scotland hosts international conference
International Association of Insolvency Regulators Conference takes place in Edinburgh.
The 2013 conference and annual general meeting of the International Association of Insolvency Regulators will take place in Scotland’s capital city Edinburgh.
The International Association of Insolvency Regulators (IAIR) is an international body that brings together the collective experiences and expertise of government insolvency regulators from jurisdictions around the world.
The conference, “Managing an Insolvency Regime in a Difficult Financial Climate”, is being held 23 – 26 September and will provide essential information and updates for international regulatory bodies that are facing the challenges of providing an insolvency regime in the current economic situation.
Over 50 delegates from countries around the world will enjoy a unique opportunity to network in two of the world’s most iconic venues. Fergus Ewing, MSP, who will open the conference on behalf of the Scottish Government, will host a drinks reception in The Great Hall of Edinburgh Castle. The Conference itself will be held at the George Hotel, Edinburgh, with a formal conference dinner taking place on the Royal Yacht Britannia, sponsored by Harper Macleod LLP.
Fergus Ewing, Minister for Enterprise, Energy and Tourism said: “I am delighted that Scotland, and in particular the wonderful city of Edinburgh, is the host nation for the 19th annual IAIR conference. The broad range of issues that will be discussed and the similarity of the challenges we face globally, highlights the value of this event.
“I am sure that the delegates will learn a lot about Scotland and our insolvency laws during their visit. I am very proud of the reputation we have as a forward thinking nation making real improvements to the lives of the people who live and work in Scotland.”
Rosemary Winter-Scott, Chair of IAIR and Chief Executive of the Accountant in Bankruptcy commented: “We aim to ensure a warm Scottish welcome awaits these influential insolvency leaders from the twenty-three member countries represented and the World Bank, European Bank of Reconstruction and Development and INSOL International.
“The IAIR conference provides a unique opportunity to share experience and knowledge in relation to the strategic issues facing our administrations. It will also provide us with an opportunity to update the delegates on the Bankruptcy reforms the Scottish Government has recently introduced to Parliament which aim to provide a fairer, more balanced system for all parties involved in debt”.
