Enterprising pupils reap rewards
Helping pupils develop their business brains at school could have huge benefits - for both individual pupils and the nation's economy.
That was the message from Education Secretary Fiona Hyslop, following a positive endorsement from HMIE for the enterprise in education programme.
The report - Improving Enterprise in Education - highlighted that enterprise in education:
* Encourages strong partnerships with businesses, colleges and the wider community
* Supports quality learning and teaching in all areas of the curriculum
* Promotes good attendance, behaviour, motivation and attainment
Ms Hyslop said:
"Scotland's future economic prosperity depends on having a highly motivated, highly skilled workforce.
"We can't afford to wait until young people leave school to introduce them to the world of work. It's vital that they develop the right attitude and skills at school.
"That's where the enterprise in education programme has proved so successful. It provides an important focus on skills for learning, employability and entrepreneurship and these are skills which everyone needs.
"Our challenge now is to develop further use of effective enterprise activities as part of our continuing work on Curriculum for Excellence.
"Enterprise education allows schools to provide all pupils with high-quality vocational education that can provide enriching opportunities for pupils of all ages, regardless of their abilities, interests and career aspirations."
