Government eProcurement programme wins national award for delivery efficiencies
The Welsh Assembly Government’s xchangewales programme has won a prestigious GC (Government Computing) Award in the category of ‘Delivering Efficiencies’.
The GC Awards are supported by the Cabinet Office, the British Computer Society and Socitm, and celebrate excellence in Public Sector IT. The ‘Delivering Efficiency’ category acknowledges the achievements of projects that demonstrate clear efficiency gains – particularly sustainable efficiencies – for their organisations.
Part of the Value Wales Division, xchangewales is a ground breaking programme that aims to deliver the use of cutting edge electronic procurement products and services across all Public Sector organisations in Wales, enabling them to source, tender, evaluate, order and pay for goods and services at the click of a button.
Jane Hutt, Minister for Business & Budget said:
“This is a great achievement: I am delighted that the work of xchangewales has been recognised at the GC Awards. In the current economic environment, it is paramount for all Welsh Public Sector organisations to optimise their procurement spend. The xchangewales portfolio of electronic procurement tools and web-based services allows the Welsh Public Sector to get best value for money, create efficiencies and gain greater benefits more quickly and comprehensively.”
The electronic tools and web-based services help to improve efficiency, increase productivity, stimulate greater collaboration between buyers and lowering the cost of doing business. In addition, suppliers also gain through process efficiencies, reduced administration cost and improved access to their customers. It is for these benefits and efficiencies – for both Public Sector buyers and their suppliers - that the xchangewales programme has been recognised. During its 5 year life-cycle, the programme will deliver over £70million of benefits to the Welsh Public Sector, savings which will be deployed into front-line services to benefit the Welsh citizen.
