IPCC investigators serve notices on nine officers from Metropolitan Police Service and Hertfordshire Constabulary
The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) has served misconduct notices on a total of nine officers from the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) and Hertfordshire Constabulary who came into contact with Sabeen Thandi before she died.
Mrs Thandi, 37, was found dead at a property in Disraeli Road, Forest Gate on Sunday, 7 July.
An independent investigation began after the MPS referred contact officers had with Mrs Thandi including an emergency call, in the early hours of 7 July, in which the caller cleared the line.
IPCC investigators are examining previous contact MPS officers had with Mrs Thandi including what information was available when officers were deployed to her address following the abandoned call to establish whether policies and procedures were adhered to.
Investigators are also looking at contact officers from Hertfordshire Constabulary had with Mrs Thandi on 19 June to establish whether all policies and procedures were followed.
The investigation is also probing involvement MPS officers had with Mrs Thandi dating back to November 2012.
On Thursday, 3 October IPCC investigators served the final misconduct notices on officers all of whom are below ACPO rank. Seven notices have been served on MPS officers, including three Sapphire officers, and two notices were served on Hertfordshire Constabulary officers.
IPCC Commissioner Derrick Campbell said:
“This is a terribly sad case in which a young mother of three has died and naturally my thoughts are with Sabeen’s family and friends.
“This is a complex investigation which is looking at police contact with Sabeen primarily by Metropolitan Police Service officers but we are also looking at interaction by Hertfordshire Constabulary too.
“We have contacted Sabeen’s family to notify them of our involvement and I am determined our investigation will answer any questions they may have.
“A criminal investigation is underway by the Metropolitan Police Service and a man has been charged with Sabeen’s murder therefore we need to be mindful of the information we make public so as not to interfere with these criminal proceedings.”
A criminal investigation is ongoing and a 35-year-old man has been remanded in to custody awaiting trial charged with murder.
