Mentors sought for Masters Programme
From September 2012 Newly Qualified Teachers (NQTs) will have the opportunity to follow a Masters Programme as part of Induction and Early Professional Development.
The Welsh Government is inviting nominations from Schools and Local Authorities in Wales for experienced practitioners or individuals with recent and relevant experience in educational practice to take up the opportunity to become an external mentor to:
- Promote improving learner outcomes and raising standards of teaching in Wales.
- Be part of a new and exciting network of mentors across Wales with opportunities for development and training in coaching and mentoring.
- Experience a unique opportunity to work alongside practitioners, Higher Education Institutions and the Welsh Government in a key role as part of the Masters in Educational Practice programme.
This exciting new development opportunity will provide a unique experience and will have long lasting benefits for the mentors, their schools and newly qualified teachers.
Mentors will have a key role in supporting NQTs throughout their Induction year and the three years of the Masters programme; they will provide high-quality support, advice and coaching in order to enable NQTs to develop their practice and to gather and assess evidence which can be used to demonstrate competence against the practising teacher standards to achieve Induction and the Masters in Educational Practice (MEP).

"This is why we are looking for excellent teachers to become mentors to ensure their substantial knowledge and experience can be passed on to the next generation of educators in Wales."
