CBI comments on NAO Financial Sustainability of Local Authorities Report
The CBI commented on a National Audit Office Financial Sustainability of Local Authorities report.
Jim Bligh, CBI Head of Public Services reform, said:
“As part of necessary deficit reduction, local authorities are operating with reduced budgets so carrying on as normal is not an option.
“Councils need to adapt to their new financial reality and be smarter about forging long-term partnerships with service providers, rather than just having relationships focused on procurement.
“Early and open conversations will allow providers to understand councils’ wider objectives, propose innovative ways to meet them and save taxpayer money.”
The CBI and NLGN Commissioning Dialogues report outlines how to achieve a more sophisticated commissioning approach.
