Reviewing the National Student Survey

Higher education organisations and stakeholders are invited to provide views and feedback on the National Student Survey (NSS). The deadline for responses is noon on Wednesday 13 November 2013.

The feedback will inform a fundamental review of the NSS, commissioned by HEFCE on behalf of the UK higher education funding bodies, and will be carried out by NatCen Social Research, the Institute of Education and the Institute for Employment Studies.

The NSS is an annual survey that collects feedback from higher education (HE) students about their satisfaction with various aspects of their undergraduate courses. It has been running every year since 2005, but during this time the HE context has changed considerably.

The review will consider whether the NSS has kept up with these changes, and what the future role of a national survey of students in an evolving HE landscape could be.

How to respond

Views and feedback on the NSS will be accepted through a secure website survey, or electronically in an alternative format. Taking part is confidential and no individual or organisation will be identified. The deadline for responses is noon on Wednesday 13 November.

To respond and find out more please see https://natcen-surveys.co.uk/nssreview/

We encourage individuals to increase contributions to the research by sharing this message with colleagues in their organisation (for example, those who are or will be responsible for delivering the NSS and using NSS data).

Findings from the research will inform a report for the Higher Education Public Information Steering Group, the UK-wide stakeholder and sector group that oversees the provision of information about HE.
