Join our seminar for aspiring authors
On 15 January 2013 we are launching our Writer of the Month with a special afternoon seminar, Mining the Archives: a beginner's guide to using historical records. Aimed at writers and aspiring writers, the masterclass aims to demystify the process of using archives for research and publishing.
Records specialists from The National Archives will discuss how to research subjects and people, with lots of practical tips, online resources and suggestions for your own research.
Our in-house publishing team will talk about the benefits of working in partnership with The National Archives and explain how you can publish your writing with us. You'll also hear guidance on how to put together a book proposal for submission.
The afternoon will end with a keynote speech from our first Writer of the Month, Ben Macintyre, who will talk about his latest book Double Cross: The True Story of the D-Day Spies and how he turned his research into a published work. Ben Macintyre's talk will be followed by a book signing.
Tickets cost £15 (or £10 for Friends of The National Archives). The seminar will take place at 13:30-18:00 at The National Archives, Kew.
Writer of the month
Throughout 2013, The National Archives will be hosting a series of monthly talks to widen awareness of historical records and their uses for writers. Each month, a high-profile author will talk about using original records in their writing. Our distinguished speakers confirmed so far, include: Antony Beevor, Tracy Borman Gus Casely-Hayford, John Guy, Peter Hennessy, Ben Macintyre, Ian Mortimer, Dominic Sandbrook, and Lucy Worsley.
