New country and regional public spending data published
The government has today published a regional break down of spending figures for the year 2012 to 2013.
The new figures show that the average spending per head across the UK was £8,788. Breaking this down across the countries gave a spending per head of £8,529 in England, £10,876 in Northern Ireland, £10,152 in Scotland and £9,709 in Wales.
Today’s statistics are part of the country and regional analysis of the 2012 to 13 Public Expenditure Analyses Statistics (PESA).
The analysis uses all identifiable government spending, including both UK and devolved administration expenditure, and apportions this out across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. The expenditure is allocated out according to the benefit each area receives.
To calculate the spending data on a per head basis, the latest population statistics for England (ONS), Wales (ONS), Scotland (the General Register Office for Scotland), and Northern Ireland (Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency) are used.
