Better connected 2014 preview #4: top tasks
Applying for a school place and getting a copy birth certificate are top ‘top tasks’ in Better connected 2014
Applying for a school place and getting a copy birth certificate are the best performing ‘top tasks’ in the 2014 Better connected survey to be published on 3 March.
The Better connected assessment of council websites is built around the concept of ‘top tasks’, an approach to website design and navigation that enables quick and simple customer journeys for website users from search engine or home page through to resolution.
The 2014 Better connected survey tested 14 top tasks, all of which (excepting one ‘mystery task’) were published in advance on the Socitm website. Four of the tasks were tested exclusively on mobile devices.
Of these tasks, ‘Apply for copy of birth certificate’ was the strongest, with 87% of sites tested (in this case shire counties only) achieving the Better connected standard, followed by ‘Apply for primary school place’ (75% of 206 councils tested achieving standard).
