New focus on business growth in UK’s fight against world poverty

Britain will increase the amount of support it provides businesses in Africa and other poor countries in a bid to boost economic growth and break their dependence on aid, International Development Secretary Andrew Mitchell has announced.

The Coalition Government has placed a new priority on the role of the private sector in international development, both in terms of UK firms operating in the poorest nations and businesses already based in developing countries.

The three new business projects will focus on agriculture and retail industries, alongside broader business support and development.
