We’re delighted to announce that the Technology Strategy Board is the latest stakeholder to sign up to the Wired-GOV service.

The Technology Strategy Board is the UK's innovation agency. Its role is to support and stimulate business-led innovation in order to accelerate economic growth.

Bringing together business, research and the public sector, the Technology Strategy Board helps to accelerate the development of innovative products and services, to meet market needs and help build the economy of tomorrow.

The organisation works closely with business and stimulates innovation through a range of funding competitions and programmes, to suit different needs. These include Smart grants for prototype or proof of concept work; funding to de-risk collaborative research and development projects; Knowledge Transfer Partnerships helping businesses to work with universities; and Knowledge Transfer Networks for sharing expertise and ideas or finding partners.

The Technology Strategy Board is an executive non-departmental public body (NDPB) sponsored and funded by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS).

Working with Government to deliver innovation

The actions of Government departments and agencies can change markets and create opportunities for innovative UK companies. The Technology Strategy Board identifies areas where specific Government levers – including policy, procurement, standards and regulation – can be harnessed to stimulate business innovation. Through strong relationships with departments, the organisation combines an understanding of their policy and innovation objectives with its own ability to harness technology and business capability - helping to address major government and societal challenges, and at the same time give innovation a major boost.

Procurement can also be a powerful innovation driver. SBRI - the Small Business Research Initiative - is a scheme championed by the Technology Strategy board which helps Government departments and other public sector bodies tackle their challenges by tapping into the ideas of innovative smaller companies.

Success stories

The Technology Strategy Board has supported innovative projects involving thousands of companies and almost every UK university, and publicises stories which highlight the successes of these projects - laying the foundations for business and economic growth.
