Oska Bright international film festival seeks submissions from learning disabled artists

Award-winning international film and digital media festival, Oska Bright, is now seeking submissions from learning disabled artists for this year's event, which runs from the 17 to 19 November 2013 at Brighton Dome.

This will be the sixth edition of Oska Bright, which is a joint venture between Arts Council England National portfolio organisation Carousel, a learning disabled arts charity, and JUNK TV, a youth and community film production company based in Brighton. The festival is run by, and for, people with a learning disability, with the aim of providing a platform of exposure for their artistic talents. The international festival has been running since 2003 and happens every two years.

UK's arts and culture is world class - each edition of the international festival features over 100 screenings, masterclasses, Q&A sessions and an award ceremony to honour the best films and filmmakers in the show.

Thousands will flock to Brighton for the three-day festival, bringing filmmakers, film lovers  and learning disabled people together, demonstrating how arts bring our communities together and give people a sense of belonging.

The Oska Bright festival will also bring income to the city over the weekend - for example, every £1 of public money invested into arts and culture, up to £6 is generated for the local economy.

Jason Eade, Oska Bright Committee Member said: 'This year's festival is going to be bigger and better than ever before and we are looking forward to welcoming everyone.. This year we'll be expanding into digital media, and for the first time ever we'll be live streaming the festival. People will be able to tune in and see what's going on from our new website Oska Bright Digital.'

Aspiring filmmakers can apply by downloading a form from the Oska Bright website, by calling 01273 234734, or by emailing oskabright@carousel.org.uk. Films must be under 10 minutes, although five is the ideal length, and submissions must be received before 30 April 2013 in order to be considered for the festival.
