The history of Ordnance Survey now online

Two books covering the history of Ordnance Survey are now available via our website for the first time. Both volumes have been published in a handy Flipbook style, making it easy for readers to find their way around the pages.

A History of the Ordnance Survey edited by WA Seymour, first published in 1980, covers the history from our inception through to 1978.

Ordnance Survey: Map makers to Britain since 1791 by Tim Owen and Elaine Pilbeam was originally published in 1992 and takes readers through our history up until 1991.

You can view the books on the History pages on our website.
