Committee to Review Assembly Code of Conduct
The Committee on Standards and Privileges has announced that it is to carry out a review of the Assembly’s Code of Conduct and is calling on members of the public to submit their views.
Committee Chairperson, Alastair Ross MLA, said “The Assembly Code of Conduct was last reviewed in 2009 and the Committee is obviously keen to ensure that this important document is reviewed and evaluated on a regular basis.
“As public servants, we must be accountable, transparent and be seen to act with integrity at all times. This review is an important opportunity for the public to have their say and to ensure that the new Code of Conduct is relevant, clear and enforceable.
Mr Ross concluded: “I would urge anyone who has an opinion on what rules should apply to MLAs to make their views known. The Code of Conduct can fulfil its purpose only if the standards it sets for MLAs are understood and endorsed across the local community.”
