Android version of Diabetes UK Tracker app launched

We are pleased to announce the launch of the Android version of our award-winning Diabetes Tracker App. The app was designed by experts – including people with diabetes, clinical specialists and user experience professionals – to help with diabetes self-management. It allows users to log and track a range of vital data, including blood glucose levels, insulin and carbohydrates, to share it with their healthcare professionals and visualise their results across days and weeks..

The iPhone version of the app, which appeared in September 2011, was a great success. It has been downloaded nearly 30,000 times, and went on to win a prestigious Third Sector Excellence Award in September 2012.

Following on from involving our users in the original development of the app, we have encouraged ongoing feedback since the app launched. Of the comments we received, more than one in four requested an Android version.

New features

As well as a number of smaller improvements, the Android version introduces new features, in response to user demand:

Data export

In addition to the original social media sharing options, users can now export their saved data in comma-separated value (CSV) format in a spreadsheet, by email.

15 Healthcare Essentials checklist

This interactive checklist allows users to keep track of the diabetes healthcare checks and standards they should receive. The checklist explains the care they are entitled to, and lets them record when these checks have been made and set reminders for future annual checks.

These new features have also been incorporated in an updated version of the iPhone app, which has been submitted to the App Store and will be available as soon as Apple have approved it.

Download now

The Android app is available to download now from the Google Play Store, and the iPhone version can be downloaded from the iTunes App Store.

User feedback

Below are just some of the positive comments we have received from users of the Diabetes Tracker App:

I just want to say this application has great potential and looks to be being made by a great team of people. So could you please thank them when passing on this feedback as the application really is one of the best out their for user experience. Keep up the good work!

This is a great application! Many thanks to all those involved in it's development and release.

Just wanted to compliment you guys on an awesome app. Newly put on insulin and the app is brilliant for my needs.

iPhone app bug

In the New Year, there was a bug in our iPhone app that caused it to crash for a very small group of users who had saved a lot of data within it. With the help of some of the affected users, our developer identified the problem and has assured us that the latest update will fix the crashing problem.

We're grateful to our users for their help with this issue and will continue to monitor the performance of the app. As always, we welcome any feedback or comments to website@diabetes.org.uk or through the App Store, Facebook or Twitter.
