The London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games have been hailed as the most sustainable ever – and the natural environment has been a real winner.
Reports just published by Natural England and its partners across three venues show how green infrastructure (such as parks and woodland) is an important element of the Olympic legacy. The case studies detail how the partners worked together to increase the number of services provided by the environment in and around the venues, which will improve biodiversity and people’s well-being. The documents provide an important resource for public and professionals.

The Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park – Natural England worked closely with the Olympic Delivery Authority to help create 45ha of habitat and draft a pioneering Biodiversity Action Plan for the park. The work had benefits for flood mitigation, climate change adaptation and biodiversity and provided a place of inspiration.
