CBI responds to PAC report on shared services

The CBI responded to the publication by the Commons’ Public Accounts Committee of its report on efficiency savings through government departments sharing services.

Andy Bagnall, CBI Head of Public Service Reform, said:

“Government departments can generate significant savings by sharing back office services, like HR and finance, while also improving their quality.

“However, as we’ve recently argued, a change in culture is needed if all government departments are to share services in a cost-effective way. We want to see the Cabinet Office publishing its implementation strategy as soon as possible to drive this agenda.”

Notes to Editors:

The CBI’s recent report, A problem shared: realising savings through shared services, argues that many central government departments and bodies perform similar services which could benefit from economies of scale, if they were shared effectively. A copy of the report can be downloaded here.
