WW2 veterans: grants for commemorative trips extended

A scheme that provides funding for Second World War veterans, their spouses, widows and carers to return to the places where they saw action has been extended for another year.

So if you would like to make a commemorative trip in 2011, you have until 31 January 2012 to apply for funding.

Heroes Return 2

The Big Lottery Fund's Heroes Return 2 provides grants to cover travel and accommodation expenses for trips to Second World War battlefields, cemeteries and other significant places across the world.

Grants of between £150 and £5,500 are available, depending on the number of people taking part and the destination.

Veterans can also get funding to take part in an official commemoration in the UK.

Since 2004 over 50,000 people have made commemorative trips with funding from the Heroes Return schemes.

By extending the scheme for another year, it is hoped that Second World War veterans from the UK, Channel Islands and Republic of Ireland who haven’t yet taken advantage of the funding will be able to do so.

So, if you are a veteran, or the spouse, widow or carer of a veteran, you have until 31 January 2012 to apply for Heroes Return 2 funding.

To apply for funding under the Heroes Return 2 initiative, follow the link below or call the Heroes Return 2 Helpline on 0845 00 00 121.
