More e-support for Welsh business
The £10 million Strategic e-Business Support Programme will provide enterprises in West Wales and the Valleys with support to improve crucial elements of their operations.
Businesses committed to innovation and technology will be able to get assistance that ranges from on-line support with ICT to forming part of a ‘digital network’ to boost advanced collaboration.
They will receive subsidised ‘best in field’ expertise in areas such as stock handling and customer relationship management – as well as a range of working practices such as invoicing, production processes and sales forecasts.
Meanwhile the e-Crime Wales programme – available throughout Wales – will invest £2.6 million in helping businesses to prevent Internet-based crime with support from the four Welsh Police Forces and key players from the financial, legal and internet security sectors.
Mr Jones said that the twin projects – both supported by European Structural Funds – will help ambitious businesses fight their way through the current economic downturn and raise their overall competitiveness.
Mr Jones, Minister for the Economy and Transport, will tell a business conference in Cardiff:
We are determined to do all we can to support our business community through this time of global economic turbulence.
Both of these initiatives – the first major ICT projects supported by the latest round of European regional development funding – will assist Welsh business to compete and succeed in the Internet Age.
Mr Jones’ announcement was made during a keynote address at the last of a series of eight e-Business Roadshows arranged by the Welsh Assembly Government, which has attracted attendance by over 500 businesses in all parts of Wales during the last three weeks.
