MPs publish accounts of women with PIP implants in advance of Commons debate
Women who received substandard breast implants have had their say about their experiences in a web forum run by the Commons Health Committee.
Yesterday the Health Committee publishes a summary of the comments received on the web forum for women with PIP implants which it ran in May 2012.
It is intended the summary should inform the debate in Westminster Hall on Thursday 5 July about the Committee's earlier report on PIP Breast implants and the regulation of cosmetic interventions.
Committee Chair, Rt Hon Stephen Dorrell MP, said:
"We are extremely grateful to all the women who took the time and trouble to contribute to our web forum on PIP implants. The testimony we received is valuable, and some of it is harrowing. What it demonstrates is that women have significant concerns about how the matter has been handled by private clinics, by the NHS and by the Government.
I am delighted that the House has an early opportunity to debate these issues and the matters raised in our March 2012 report on PIP Breast implants and regulation of cosmetic interventions. The debate on 5 July is timely, coming as it does shortly after the publication of two further reports on the matter, those of the Earl Howe review of the actions of the MHRA and the Department of Health and the review of the medical evidence on PIP implants undertaken by Sir Bruce Keogh's expert group."
