GLA and MPA crime and community safety roadshow Moving forward together: tackling and preventing violence
Kit Malthouse AM, Chair of the MPA and Deputy Mayor for Policing, will lead a second round of roadshows this November to inform London’s communities on the Mayor’s key strategies: Met Forward, Time for Action and The Way Forward.
He said:
“I am committed to tackling the causes of violence. Following the first successful crime and community safety roadshows earlier this year I am staging a second series to engage in more detailed discussions with communities about violent crime in their area of London.
“We need the public’s help to answer the vital question ‘what more can we do collectively to address violent crime, enabling effective and focused delivery’. But given the challenging financial landscape we all face we must reach consensus on the priorities to prevent and reduce violence, provide victim support and reduce re-offending.
“Quite rightly Londoners expect me, the Mayor and colleagues from across the public sector to do our utmost to address violent crime and the roadshows will be an opportunity to identify further improvements in the way we work together.”
Members of the audience will be invited to put their questions on crime and community safety to Kit Malthouse, and either Assistant Commissioner for Territorial Policing Ian McPherson or Deputy Assistant Commissioner Lynne Owens will join Kit Malthouse at each event.
Kit Malthouse continued:
“Huge progress has been made to ensure that London is a safe city. This year alone serious violence has reduced by 21% compared to 2009/10. Whilst we can be proud of the work that has helped to achieve this reduction, still more needs to be done to reduce all types of violent crime and crucially to convince our communities that things are improving.”
