New HMRC Podcasts go live today
An honest assessment of HMRC online services, and responses to agents' questions, can be heard in the latest HMRC podcasts, launched today.
HMRC Chairman, Paul Gray, says in an interview that while HMRC has "come a very long way", there are more improvements it can make to its online services, and admits that there are "some features of our systems that don't give the service people are looking for".
In another podcast, Dave Hartnett, HMRC's Director General (Business), answers tax agents' questions on a whole host of subjects, including VAT registration delays, the restructuring of HMRC, and the difference between acceptable and unacceptable tax avoidance.
The podcasts can be downloaded from HMRC's podcast page on its website - http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/podcasts
You can also join more than 6,000 people who have already subscribed to the HMRC podcast feed - so each time there's a new podcast, it's automatically delivered to your computer when you're on-line. Full instructions are available on the podcast page.
Notes for Editors
1. In July, agents were encouraged to email their questions to Dave Hartnett, a selection of which are answered in the podcast launched today.
2. In April 2007, HMRC became one of the first Government departments to launch a podcast service, designed to make information available on a wide range of subjects, in a simple and accessible way.
3. HMRC's two previous podcasts covered employers' end-of-year PAYE filing and HMRC's new relationship with tax agents. Both are available for download from the podcast page.
